Feeney Tabbed CCC Scholar-Athlete

CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Joe Feeney of the Suffolk men's hockey team wrapped up his time in a blue-and-gold sweater as the 2022 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Scholar-Athlete, the league announced as part of the All-CCC teams Thursday.

Feeney, who has owned a leadership role in the last two seasons and wore the 'C' this year, was acknowledged as the league's top student-athlete, who is either graduating or has exhausted his eligibility and has excelled both on the ice and in the classroom.

The forward's commitment to his teammates and the men's hockey program is unrelenting and that is proven as he became the first Ram to collect a major yearly award from the CCC in program history. A native of Foxboro, Massachusetts, Feeney has been a staple on Suffolk's offense since arriving in Boston four years ago.  In 75 appearances, he has racked up 25 points on his stat line with six goals and 19 handouts and has won 54.5 percent of the 1,200-plus face-offs taken.

This season, he helped guide Suffolk back to the CCC after two years away and was crucial to capturing the most CCC wins in program history with a 7-10-4 league ledger. Thanks to that mark, the blue-and-gold secured its spot in the CCC's postseason as the fifth seed, the highest finish for Suffolk in its history in the CCC and best seed headed to a league tournament since skating in the fourth spot in the 2016 ECAC Northeast playoffs.

Academically, Feeney stood out from the rest. The MBA candidate concluded his bachelor's in finance in just three years and did so with a near perfect undergraduate GPA of 3.936. He continued that academic excellence his first semester of grad school, while also representing the Rams, with a 3.865 GPA.

Throughout his career, he has been rewarded for his academic accomplishments with three Kramapde All-America Scholar honors from the American Hockey Coaches Association, as well as academic all-conference awards from the CCC and New England Hockey Conference, respectively. Additionally, he was a member of Suffolk's 4.0 Club in the spring of 2019 and is a seven-time AD Honor Roll honoree, which is award to student-athletes with a full course load, 12 credits or more, with a minimum 3.00 semester GPA.

Feeney and the Rams have their sights on the CCC Quarterfinals Saturday, Feb. 26 that sends Suffolk to fourth seed Curry for a 5 p.m. outing.
