Men’s Hockey Sends Seniors Off with 3-1 Win Over Wentworth

CHARLESTOWN, Mass. – Suffolk men's hockey closed out its regular-season in winning fashion as the Rams took down Wentworth, 3-1, Saturday night at Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink. The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) outing served as the Rams' Senior Night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rams potted a pair of unanswered pucks in the first frame to skate into the first intermission up 2-0.  

Nick Lachaine was the first Suffolk skater to find the back of the twine. Devin Lowe intercepted a Leopards' pass that was bound to clear Wentworth's zone instead the puck bounced from Lowe's stick to a waiting Lachaine, who sniped a one-timer into the back of the net 13:51 into the outing.  

With 59 second remaining in the opening period, Shawn Montgomery etched his named on the scoresheet. The senior put away a breakaway that was set-up by Ryan Harrigan to make it a two-goal gap as the teams went to the locker room.  

Following a scoreless second period, Wentworth got on the bard 3:44 into the third to cut the margin in half. Montgomery's second goal of the outing came with 1:44 left in regulation. Harrigan aided in the insurance tally that made it a 3-1 game. 

Wentworth pulled Will Oliver from the net following Montgomery's goal to help boost a comeback for the Leopards. Fortunately, Cal Wilcox handled his end to keep the 3-1 victory for the Rams.  

NETMINDER NOTES 

  • Wilcox registered 34 saves in the victory. 
  • Oliver turned aside 27 shots.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Montgomery's two goals led the way for Suffolk's scoring. 
  • Harrigan assisted on both of Montgomery's goals. 
  • Lachaine found the back of the net once. 
  • Lowe chipped in one assist. 
  • Wentworth outshot Suffolk, 35-30. 
  • The Rams commanded the draw, 39-26. 
  • Neither team was able to score on their three man-up chances.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk coupled back-to-back wins over Wentworth together. 
  • The Rams improved to 15-24-1 all-time against the Leopards. 
  • The blue-and-gold is now 5-2-0 in the last handful of battles against WIT, all of which came in CCC play. 
  • Suffolk is now 10-18-1 versus Wentworth in the Chris Glionna era.
  • Montgomery matched a career high two goals. 
  • Montgomery scored two goals in one game for the second time this season, third time in his career. 
  • Montgomery has produced back-to-back two-point games. 
  • Harrigan handed out a personal-best two assists. 
  • Harrigan matched a career-high two points. 
  • Harrigan (1g, 2a) has notched a point in the last two games. 
  • Lachaine stretched his point streak to three games. In that span he has one goal and two assists.
