Men’s Hockey Keeps Unbeaten Streak Alive, Ties Salve Regina, 1-1

CHARLESTOWN, Mass. – Suffolk men's hockey skate to a 1-1 tie against Salve Regina Saturday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 3 | Salve Regina
RECORDS: Suffolk (5-8-4, 5-6-4 CCC) | Salve Regina (13-5-1, 11-3-1 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPPENED
Samuel Rand managed to get the puck across the line 7:30 into the outing to give Suffolk a leg up it would not let go of until late in the third period. Olle Akermark and Shawn Montgomery aided in the game-opening goal that pushed the Rams in front 1-0.

The Seahawks were kept at bay until late in the third period when Anthony Azzano scored a shorthanded strike with 5:54 left in regulation. The marker that came on Suffolk's power play leveled the playing field at one apiece and down the stretch both netminders did their jobs to force the extra session.

In OT neither team capitalized on their chances -- Suffolk's one and Salve Regina's three – to keep things deadlocked at 1-all at the end of regulation for the stalemate.

In the shootout, Cal Wilcox and Nicholas Lationvich each stood up to the task over the first three rounds. In the fourth, Latinovich turned aside Alex Kolowrat's shot, however Kaiden Kanderka figured out Wilcox to boost the Seahawks to grab the league's extra point.

  • Latinovich registered 37 saves.
