Salve Regina Shutouts Men’s Hockey, 3-0

CHARLESTOWN, Mass. – For the first time since its 2021-22 debut, Suffolk men's hockey was kept off the scoreboard as Salve Regina skated past the Rams, 3-0, Friday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Memorial Rink.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 0 | Salve Regina 3
RECORDS: Suffolk (1-6-2, 1-4-2 CCC) | Salve Regina (6-4-0, 5-2-0 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
All the scoring was saved until the final 20 minutes as zeros hung on the board throughout the first and second frames, respectively.

Mitch Walinski managed to figure out Cal Wilcox 7:24 into the third as he slipped the puck past the blue-and-gold goalie to give the Seahawks the first and only lead of the game. The distance doubled 6:27 later when Ethan DeStanfi potted a puck on the power play.

Down by a pair, Suffolk attempted to get something going offensive as it pulled Wilcox from between the pipes with just over two minutes remaining in regulation. The gamble paid off the Salve Regina though as George Sennott netted an empty netter at the 18:35 minute mark for the final 3-0 margin.

KEEPING UP WITH THE KEEPERS

  • Wilcox logged 38 saves in the setback.
  • Nichols Latinovich stopped all 24 shots he faced in the cleansheet.
