Curry Nips Men’s Hockey, 4-2

CANTON, Mass. – Suffolk men's hockey was handed its first setback of the abbreviated season as back-to-back Curry goals in the middle period proved to be the difference in a 4-2 decision Saturday afternoon at the Canton Ice Center.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | Curry 4
RECORDS: Suffolk (1-1) | Curry (3-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Following a scoreless first frame in which both teams put six shots on target, the Colonels clicked on the scoreboard first. Just 2:05 back on the ice, Mic Curran punched the puck past Cal Wilcox's stick side shoulder from the right face-off do to give the hosts an early edge. Curran

Max Rand responded for the Rams 5:20 later with a double deflection through Cody Murch's 7-hole to level the playing field at 1-all. The puck came off Billy Roche's stick from the blue line, was deflected by Joe Vingi and ricocheted off M. Rand into Curry's net.

Just 2:30 after Rand found the back of the next for the first time of the season, Curran collected his second strike of the day. Alex Ochterbeck skated into the Rams' zone, found Vikot Jansson cutting down the middle. Jansson had a two-on-two with Wilcox, dropped the puck for Curran, who struck top shelf stick side to regain a one-goal, 2-1 edge for the Colonels.

That score held at the second intermission and similar to the middle period, little time ticked off the clock in the third stanza before the scoring started. Miller Rubin fired cross ice from the blue line where Devin Lowe was front-and-center to Curry's cage. The senior defenseman's pass hit Lowe's stick at just the right angle to head into the netting and cut the deficit back to one, 3-2, 1:26 out of the locker room.

Suffolk attempted to play catch-up once more, but Curran put matters away for Curry when he completed his hat trick at the 15:06 minute mark.
