Selep Scores OT Game Winner as Hockey Skates Past SNHU 5-4

Sophomore Justin Selep (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored thirty-four seconds into overtime to lift the Suffolk University Hockey team past Southern New Hampshire University 5-4 on Tuesday evening.

After squandering a two goal lead late in the third period, Selep's fifth tally of the season extended Suffolk's unbeaten streak to seven games to open the 2014-15 season.

Senior Tim Sprague (Plymouth, Mass.) opened the scoring just three minutes into the contest when Suffolk would take advantage of the extra man as his power play goal at 3:11 mark gave Suffolk the 1-0 edge.

Southern New Hampshire would even things up just twenty-eight seconds later when junior Jay Gabrione (Boca Raton, Fla.) scored his first of two goals in the opening period.

Garbione would strike again for his fourth goal of the season at the 7:47 mark to give the Penmen the 2-1 lead.

Sophomore Stanton Turner (San Francisco, Calif.) would even the game at 2-2 when he put in his team leading sixth goal of the season with sophomore Sean Heelen (Walpole, Mass.) providing the assist from the blue line.

Sprague would strike for his second goal of the season eight minutes later at 13:57 into the period to put Suffolk back on top when he took a feed from freshman Jack Jenkins (Billerica, Mass.).

With six minutes remaining in regulation, junior Tyler Heineman (Randolph, N.J.) would give Suffolk a two-goal cushion as he was set up by Turner for the 4-2 lead.

Junior Anthony Laperriere (Winchendon, Mass.) would cut Suffolk's lead in half when he knocked in his third goal of the season at 17:19. Just seventeen seconds later junior Joe Collins (Mansfield, Mass.) tied the game at 4-4 when he scored unassisted.

Selep's goal in the overtime period would move Suffolk to a 6-0-1 record to start the season. Selep took an assist on the game winner by sophomore Danyil Medvedev (Boston, Mass.), his second helper of the contest.

Suffolk will be back in action on Sunday afternoon when they travel to New England College for a 4:00pm non-conference face off.
