Simon Leahy Named ECAC Northeast Rookie of the Week

Suffolk University Hockey freshman Simon Leahy (Milwaukee, Wis./Northern Cyclones (AJHL)) was named Rookie of the Week by ECAC Northeast Hockey on Monday November 25.

Leahy netted a pair of goals and added an assist in Suffolk's 7-1 victory over Nichols College on Wednesday evening. The freshman forward netted his first goal of the evening on a 5-on-3 power-play as part of a four goal Suffolk explosion in the first period.  He would later score his team leading fifth goal of the year as he stole a Bison pass at center ice and broke in alone on four on four action in the third period. Leahy would cap off the night adding as assist on sophomore Mike Cherpak's (Enfield, Conn./Springfield (EJHL)) goal in the waning seconds of the contest.

Wednesday's victory over the previously undefeated Nichols College improved Suffolk's overall mark to 3-2 on the year. They extended their unbeaten streak to three games with a 3-3 tie on Saturday evening at Becker College to move to 2-2-1 on the young season in ECAC Northeast action.

In five conference games this season, Leahy is tops among rookie skaters with six points, while his seven overall points on the year is a team-high.

Suffolk will be back in action on Tuesday evening as they host Southern New Hampshire University in non-league action at the Charlestown DCR. The puck drops at 8:40pm.
