Brandon Smolarek Tabbed ECAC Northeast Goalie of the Week

Suffolk University freshman goaltender Brandon Smolarek (Chesterfield, Mo.) was tabbed ECAC Northeast Goalie of the Week on December 3. Smolarek helped lead the Rams to a 1-0-1 record in two conference games last week as he stopped a combined 87 shots between the pipes for Suffolk.

Smolarek made 49 saves on Thursday as the Rams skated to a 4-4 tie with Curry College. Smolarek was brilliant in the overtime period stopping all five shots he faced in the extra fame as the Rams and Colonels skated to a draw.

On Saturday, Smolarek pushed aside 38 of 39 shots he faced as Suffolk topped Nichols College, 6-1 at home at Steriti Rink in Boston's North End.

Smolarek has appeared in goal in five games this season for the Rams posting a 1-1-2 record on the year. He maintains a 3.52 goals against average while his .907 save percentage is ranked fifth among goalies in the ECAC Northeast.

Suffolk will round out the first half of their season on Wednesday evening as they host Stonehill College at 7:25 down the North End at Steriti Rink. The Rams will also be organizing their annual Toys for Tots drive. Donations will be accepted through the first two periods of action. Presents can be dropped off, wrapped or unwrapped, and will be donated to a local charity by the Suffolk University Hockey team.
