Tufts Defeat Suffolk 4-1

Box Score

BOSTON, Mass.--  Freshman Scott Barchard (Reading, Mass.) stopped 36 of 37 shots in goal to lead Tufts to a 4-1 non-league college ice hockey victory over Suffolk Tuesday evening at Steriti Rink.

Junior Mike Fitoussi (Great Neck, N.Y.) staked the visiting Jumbos (8-9-1) to a 1-0 first period lead with a marker that came 11:51 into the contest, and sophomore Tom Derosa (Charlestown, Mass.) extended Tufts' advantage just 22 seconds into the middle stanza for a 2-0 edge after 40 minutes of action.  Junior Niles Moore (Columbus, Ohio) sliced that margin in half for the host Rams (4-13-2) with a tally that came with 7:19 remaining in the contest, but junior Joe Rosano (Cohasset, Mass.) gave Tufts a two-goal cushion once again with 2:20 to play, as freshman Nick Resor's (Westwood, Mass.) empty-netter with five seconds remaining iced the triumph for the visitors.

Juniors David Antonelli (Westwood, Mass.) and Matt Ryder (Gates Mills, Ohio), along with sophomores Fredrik Mellgren (Shoreview, Minn.) and Dylan Cooper (Colorado Springs, Colo.), registered assists in the win for Tufts, while seniors John Rocchio (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Mitch Sabo (Bell Canyon, Calif.) collected helpers on Moore's goal for Suffolk.  Barchard made 20 of his saves in the second period alone for the visitors, while sophomore Jeff Rose (Collinsville, Conn.) made 22 stops in net for the hosts as the Rams outshot the Jumbos by a 37-26 margin for the contest.
