Men’s Golf Shares 10th at Duke Nelson Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Suffolk men's golf tied for 10th at the 39th Duke Nelson Invitational over the weekend at Ralph Myhre Golf Club.

The Rams shared 10th with Hamilton with a two-day card of 605. Suffolk shot 303 and shaved one stroke off that performance on Sunday.  The 10th-place tie is the best performance by the squad since it made its Duke Nelson Debut in 2019, surpassing last season's 14th-place performance. The blue-and-gold finished ahead of Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) foes Nichols (14) and Western New England (24).

Babson, who led the 24-team field after the first 18 holes, held onto the top spot through 36 with a total of 577, eight strokes ahead of runner-up Trinity (385). Endicott, Suffolk's CCC counterpart was one stroke behind the Bantams in third.

Vijay Sakuru shined for Suffolk individually. He put together the best showing by a Ram at the meet in its history according to the record books with a share of ninth in the field of 122. The senior, who ended day one in a nine-way tie for 30th with a 75, shot one under the 71-par on Sunday to finish with a 145.

Jake Zirlin, who led Suffolk on its first day of action in Vermont, dipped down to a share of 50th with a 154. He opened the tournament with a 74 before shooting an 80 on the second day on the course. Cameron Sinopoli shared 50th with Zirlin.

Christopher Sinopoli and Jonathan Donovan each earned a spot in the top 100. The former, a sophomore, claimed a share of 64th with a 155, while the junior was five strokes behind to tie for 94th.

Suffolk takes the next week off from action to prep for the Bowdoin Invitational Sept. 23-24 at the Brunswick Golf Club in Brunswick, Maine.
