Men’s Golf Treks to Duke Nelson Invitational this Weekend

BOSTON – Suffolk men's golf is prepped for its first two-day tournament of 2023 as the Rams take their talent to Middlebury, Vermont this weekend for the 39th Duke Nelson Invitational at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course. Saturday, Sept. 9's action gets underway at 1 p.m., with Sunday's Sept. 10 shotgun start on tap for 9 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Suffolk men's golf began its 2023 campaign with a 319-339 victory over Wentworth Friday afternoon at George Wright Golf Course. 

Three Rams took the first three spots to clinch the victory and remain unbeaten all-time against Wentworth. The head-to-head season-opening match marked a first for the blue-and-gold in its year-by-year record book, which dates back to 2008.

THE COURSE
The Ralph Myhre Golf Course is an 18-hole public course owned and operated by Middlebury College. 

SUFFOLK AT THE DUKE NELSON INVITATIONAL

  • The Rams have competed in three of the last four Duke Nelson Invitationals (2019, 2021, 2022). 
  • Suffolk's highest finish came a year ago when it took 14th in the field of 24. 
  • Individually, Mauro Stanchieri has shined at the two-day invite. He has led the Rams at the event the last two years including last season's share of 19th with a card of 150.  

RAMS ROSTER
Suffolk's line-up for the weekend will be seniors Cameron Sinopoli and Vijay Sakuru, juniors Jonathan Donovanand Jake Zirlin and sophomore Christopher Sinopoli

COACH'S QUOTE
"For most of the team this will be their second or third go around at Ralph Myhre Golf Course so expectations are higher than last year," head coach Ken DiMaggio said. "As a team, we're looking for a high finish."

RECOGNIZING RAMS
Suffolk men's golf's Ryan Mollica earned Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week after his performance in the season debut, a head-to-head match with league foe Wentworth.

The Rams rest next weekend to prep for the Bowdoin Invitational, which is on tap Sept. 23-24 at the Brunswick Golf Club in Brunswick, Maine.
