Men’s Golf Punches Ticket to CCC Championships

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. – For the second time in as many seasons, Suffolk men's golf sealed a spot at the 2023 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship behind a top four finish at the CCC Qualifier Thursday.

The Rams finished third in the qualifier with a combined 317 on the 6,830-yard, par 71 Green Valley Country Club Blue Course to make the conference's spring championship field for the second straight year. Suffolk has yet to miss a CCC Championship since it has joined the league.

Nichols topped the eight-team field for the second year in a row with a score of 309. Endicott was two strokes behind the Bison with a team card of 311.

Similar to the top two teams, the third and fourth place performers were separated by two strokes as well with the host Roger Williams' 319, good for fourth, behind the blue-and-gold

The 36-hole CCC Championship field is nearly identical from a year prior as the Rams, Gulls and Bison earned a spot to vie for the conference crown. The two-day event, that will be hosted by Nichols this spring, will feature the Hawks for the first time since 2019-20.

Mauro Stanchieri led the way for the Rams individually. The junior put together the best performance by a Suffolk student-athlete at the CCC Qualifier in program history with a runner-up showing. A product of El Hatillo, Venezuela, Stancheiri shot a one over par (72), just one stroke shy of Endicott's Brady Burke, who put together an even (71) outing.

Fellow junior Vijay Sakuru shared fifth with a 776 (+6), while their classmate, captain Cameron Sinopoli tied for 13th with an 80 (+9).

Freshman Christopher Sinopoli rounded out Suffolk's scorers with an 88 that shared 32nd in the 40-golfer field that also featured Jake Zirlin (89).

Suffolk will be back in action this weekend when it competes at the Blazers Invitational. Saturday, Oct. 1's action is set to take place at The Ledges Golf Club in South Hadley, Massachusetts, with the two-day event wrapping up at Cold Springs Country Club in Belchertown, Massachusetts on Sunday, Oct. 2.
