Men’s Golf Claims 14th at Duke Nelson Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Suffolk men's golf got its season going with a 14th-place performance at Middlebury's 38th Duke Nelson Invitational over the weekend at The Ralph Myhre Golf Course. 

The Rams shaved 17 strokes off their day one card of 321 with a 304 on day two to finish with a 625 overall, good for 14th in the field of 24. Suffolk was the second-best Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) team on the course behind Endicott (605) and ahead of Western New England (643). 

One point separated the top three teams at RPI topped the field with a 590 and Middlebury and Trinity shared second with a 591. 

Individually, Mauro Stanchieri shined for Suffolk. The junior shot an 80 on day one and a 70 on the second day of action to finish with a 150, good for a share of 19th. 

Vijay Sakuru and Christopher Sinopoli shared 68th with a 159 apiece. Sakuru's card came behind an 81 and 78, while Sinopolis was based on day scores of 80 and 78. 

Jake Zirlin earned a spot within the top-100. The sophomore had a 164 to take a share of 95th. 

Cameron Sinopoli rounded out the Rams in a tie of 102nd with a score of 166. 

Suffolk will be back in action Thursday, Sept. 22 at the CCC Qualifier at the Green Valley Country Club in Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
