Men’s Golf Opens Season at Duke Nelson Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Suffolk men's golf got its 2021-22 season going at the 37th Duke Nelson Invitational over the weekend. The Rams rounded out the 22-team field at The Ralph Myhre Golf Course.  

Suffolk put together a 22nd place finish in the two-day tournament with a team score of 653. Babson College collected the win with a combined card of 580. 

Individually, Mauro Stanchieri was the standout Suffolk student-athlete. The sophomore shot a 77 on each day of action to finish with a 154 to share 36th in a field of 110 golfers. 

Jake Zirlin also made his blue-and-gold debut. The Rams' rookie took four strokes off his day one tally of 83 to finish with a 162, good for a tie of 69. 

Rams veterans James Ventre and Cameron Sinopoli tied for 88th and 99th, respectively. Ventre shot a 167, while Sinopoli scored a 170. 

Nicholas Kirby rounded out the Rams in action with a 191.  

Suffolk will prepare for the CCC Qualifier on tap for this Thursday, Sept. 16 at the Dunegrass Golf Course in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.
