Men’s Golf Finishes Eighth at GNAC Championship

GORHAM, Maine – The Suffolk men's golf team shot a collective 646 to claim eighth at the 2016 GNAC Men's Golf Championship over the weekend at the Gorham Country Club hosted by Southern Maine. 

Saint Joseph's (Maine) upstaged five-time running Rhode Island College for first place with a team card of 607, finishing three strokes ahead of the Anchormen's and Southern Maine's 610. The Monks entered Sunday just one stroke behind the tournament host Huskies and used a 306 on day two of competition to seal its championship crown. Worcester State shot a 622 and Johnson & Wales carded a 629 to round out the top five teams. 

Stephen Ferrante turned in the highest finish at the conference championships since Tim Bendetto tied for sixth in 2014. Ferrante, a sophomore from Peabody, Massachusetts shot seven above par on day one and followed that up with a 78 on day two to identically match Johnson & Wales' Alan Ferrare's 155  to tie for 13th. 

In his first league championships, Demetrois Stamouli finished in the top-20. The rookie, who hails from Manchester, New Hampshire, placed in a three-way tie for 17th thanks to a 77-card on day one and an 80 performance on day for a 157 total. 

Classmate Owen Boggini also placed in a tie. The Tolland, Connecticut, product shot 164 thanks to an 80 day one score and 84 second day outing to take home 31st. 

Senior Patrick Hambleton and rookie Elias Sachs placed one right after another. Hambleton shot 172 for 40th, while Sachs placed 41st thanks to a 176 score. 

Suffolk has one more competition on its slate for 2016, the NEIGA Championships, Oct. 22-24, at Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Massachusetts.
