BOSTON – Suffolk men's basketball scored 56 points in the paint to reemerge in the win column with a convincing 90-66 decision over Commonwealth Coast Conference counterpart Curry Saturday afternoon at Larry E. and Michael S. Smith Court

HOW IT HAPPENED
After back-and-forth action to get things going that say a pair of tied scores and three lead changes, the Rams trailed 5-7. Suffolk scored eight unanswered all inside the paint to take control, 13-7, just over five minutes into the action.  

Curry continued to claw at the lead and managed to chip the gap down to two, 31-29, with 3:57 left in the first half. 

A long ball from Aidan Sullivan ignited a first-half ending, 11-0 Rams run that sent Suffolk into the locker room with a 13-point, 42-29, lead. That stretch featured a fast-break traditional 3-point play from Keenan Robertson, a monster put back from Jake Gomez and a deep triple by Cole LeVangie

Suffolk started the second stanza with a similar game plan from the beginning of the conference contest, score in the paint. This time it worked out in the Rams favor as they outscored the Colonels, 12-2, in the first 3:16, to stretch their advantage to 54-31.  

The blue-and-gold did not stop there as it came out of a Curry timeout and continued its offensive output, expanding the margin to 65-36, at the 13:35 mark.  

Overall, in the first 6:25 of the second half, Suffolk poured in 15 field goals, just one came outside the paint, a 3-pointer from John Gates that gave that made it a 29-point margin. 

Jason Romans was influenced by Shawn Charles dunk. As the freshmen got deficit down to 22 for the Colonels, 67-45, with 11:34 on the clock.  

Curry continued its comeback attempt and cut the distance down to 18, 77-59, with just under five minutes to play in regulation.  

Back-to-back treys from Gates and LeVangie restored a comfortable cushion, 83-59, with 3:13 to go before the Rams turned on cruise control from there. 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Robertson led the way offensively with a 23-points performance on an 8-for-12 showing from the field. He added eight rebounds, three assists and one steal. 
  • William Rowe registered 18 points, on an 8-for-11 effort from the floor. His stat line featured seven boards, one assist and one block. 
  • Gomez logged 12 points behind his 6-for-9 showing from the field to go along with seven rebounds, three helpers and one steal. 
  • LeVangie recorded 10 points, seven boards, three handouts and two takeaways. 
  • Suffolk shot 54.6 percent on the night (36-66), just 30.4 percent (7-23) and 91.7 percent (11-12) from the foul line. 
  • Three Colonels, Lowell Torres (13), Angelo Sardegna (13) and Romans (18) paced Curry's 66-point offensive output. 
  • 62.2 percent of Suffolk's scoring came inside the key.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • Suffolk improved to 33-7 all-time against Curry with its seventh straight win over the Colonels. 
  • Suffolk remains unbeaten, 5-0, versus the Colonels in the Jeff Juron era. 
  • Gomez matched a career-high six field goals made.
