Men's Basketball Top New England College 96-81

The Suffolk University Men's Basketball team defeated the New England College Pilgrims, 96-81 in non-league action on Sunday afternoon in the Regan Gymnasium.

Senior Sam Nwadike (Houston, Tx.) scored a season-high 34 points to lift Suffolk past the Pilgrims as they improve to a 3-3 record on the season.

Junior Caleb Unni (Winchester, Mass.) recorded a double-double with 17 points and led all players with 10 rebounds, while sophomore Matt Duquette (Swampscott, Mass.) chipped in with 15 points.

Senior Jonathan Byrnes (Bethel, Conn.) led the Pilgrims with 23 points, while junior Dezron Wilson (Hartford, Conn.) added 21 points in the setback.

Nwadike would score the first nine points for Suffolk to open the contest as he was 5-for-9 from the field as part of a 15 point first-half. Suffolk would take a 44-37 lead heading into the break.

New England College would come out in the second half putting together a quick 7-0 run to even things up early in the new period. They would manage to get their largest lead of the contest nearly eight minutes into the half when Byrnes put them up 62-54 converting on a three point play.

A 19-3 run by Suffolk over the ensuing five minutes would spin the point margin back in favor of Suffolk with seven minutes remaining when Nwadike capped off the scoring spree with one of his seven made field goals in the second half.

Junior Adam Chick (Northbrook, Ill.) would score all nine of his points in the second half to help pace Suffolk as they shot at a 54.3-percent clip in the period.

Suffolk held a slight edge on the glass in the victory at 41-36.

Senior Robin Wilson (Biddeford, Me.) added 18 points and a team-high seven rebounds off the bench for the Pilgrams.

The setback drops New England College to a 3-2 mark on the season.

Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday evening. New England College travels to Fitchburg State University for a 7:00pm tip-off. Suffolk will host Norwich University at 7:00pm in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.
