Baseball’s Flynn Named CCC Rookie of the Week

BEVERLY, Mass. – Colin Flynn of the Suffolk baseball team garnered Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week after helping the Rams go 5-0 over the week including a sweep of conference counterpart Curry, the league office announced Tuesday morning. 

Flynn, a freshman from Dorchester, Massachusetts, was perfect in center field with 17 putouts in 17 total chances. At the plate, the right-handed hitter produced six hits, including a one double, with a pair of RBI, four runs scored and two stolen bases en route to his second weekly accolade of the season. 

The outfield walked once in the week's opener, a 7-1 non-conference triumph over Salem State, before going 2-for-4 with one run scored in each game of the CCC doubleheader sweep of the Colonels on Saturday. In the series opener against Curry he knocked a double and in the nightcap he brought in two runs, which tied a personal-best. He capped the week off with a 2-for-3 effort with two runs and two swiped bags in game two against Anna Maria, an 8-4 Suffolk win. 

With this week's distinction, Flynn has been tabbed the conference's best rookie over a seven-day span twice. He is the first Ram to take home multiple CCC Rookie of the Week nods in program history and first Suffolk baseball player to garner multiple league rookie of the week recognitions' since Will Hopkins grabbed two from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in 2018. He is the second-ever Ram to collect multiple weekly awards from the CCC, joining Harry Painter, who set a program-record two weekly accolades from the CCC a week ago. 

Suffolk now has six weekly awards on is season's resume this year, which are the most since it garnered six in 2018.   

The Rams, which are on an eight-game win streak, their longest since March 21-31, 2019, wraps up a six-game homestand this afternoon against Gordon. First pitch at East Boston memorial Park is set for 3:30 p.m.
