Baseball Secures Sweep, Takes Game 2 at Nichols, 7-5

DUDLEY, Mass. – A seventh-run fourth inning lifted Suffolk baseball to a 7-5, seven-inning Commonwealth Coast Conference nightcap win over Nichols Friday at the Bison Baseball Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk found itself in a two-run hole after Nichols scored one run in the first and second, respectively.  

The Rams got their offense going in the fourth as they batted around and forced two pitching changes to grab a 7-2 advantage. The rally was sparked by Harry Painter's lead off and featured a pair of RBI from Jonny Gilbride and Alex Sorenti-Burns. The former hit a two-runs single, while the latter produced a two-run double. Colin Flynn and Painter, meanwhile, respectively.  

A three-run shot by Johnny Knox pulled the Bison within two, 7-5, in the seventh. Brett Bucklin took over for Pierce Salbego on the mound. The right-handed reliever got the next two outs to lock up the win for the Rams.  

PITCHERS PICTURE

  • Salbego recorded the victory behind a five-run (four earned), five-hit, three-walk, five-strikeout effort over 6.1 innings. 
  • Bucklinearned the save after shoving 0.2 innijngs of scoreless, hitless relief. 
  • Clark Churchill took the loss for the Bison after giving up six runs, all unearned, on four hits and two walks with four Ks in 3.2 innings of work. 
  • Nolan Sullivan (0.0 IP, 1 R, 2 BB) and John Steed (3.1 IP, 2 H, 2 Ks) came out of the pen for the Bison as well.  

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

  • Gilbride went 2-for-3 at the dish with two RBI. 
  • Sorenti-Burns brought in two runs on one hit, a double, to go along with one run scored. 
  • Painter had one hit, a double, one RBI, one walk and one run. 
  • Flynn added one hit, one RBI and one run. 
  • Christopher White brought in one run on one walk and scored one run.  

NOTEWORTHY

  • The Rams moved to 22-20 all-time against Nichols with their third consecutive win over the Bison. 
  • Suffolk is 5-2 versus Nichols under Del Prete's guidance. 
  • Salbego moved to 3-0 on the year. 
  • Bucklin earned his first save as a Ram. 
  • White matched a career-high one RBI.
