BOSTON – Suffolk used a walk-off victory to earn to a spot in the double-elimination portion of the 2022 Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament, which now sends the sixth-seeded Rams to top-seed No. 4/8 Endicott Wednesday, May 10. Game one of the double-elimination bracket has a 3:00 p.m. first pitch at North Field.

SUFFOLK IN THE CCC TOURNAMENT

  • The Rams are in the program's third trip and third in as many years to the CCC Tournament. 
  • Suffolk is 2-4 in the CCC postseason. 
  • Both of the blue-and-gold's victories in the CCC Tourney have come in the Play-In Game, as the sixth seed, and over Gordon. 
  • Suffolk is battling in the CCC Tournament as part of the seven-team field for the second time in program history and second time in as many years. Both trips have been as the sixth seed. 
  • Suffolk is 2-2 as the sixth seed in the CCC Tournament. 
  • The Rams have yet to win a contest in the double-elimination bracket of the CCC Tournament, 0-2. 
  • Suffolk and Endicott will meet in the CCC postseason for the first time since 2021. 
  • The Rams have yet to take down the Gulls in the postseason, 0-2. 
  • Suffolk is 0-4 when playing a CCC Tournament game on the road.  

LAST TIME OUT
Down 12-10 in the bottom of the ninth, Suffolk baseball team rallied to force extra-innings where Marc Birbiglia barreled a base hit RBI to send the sixth-seeded Rams past seventh seed Gordon, 13-11, in 11 frames Monday afternoon at East Boston Memorial Park.

Suffolk improved to 13-20 on the season after defeating Gordon, 13-12 in 11 innings, in the CCC Play-In game Monday, May 8.  

Harry Painter has paced the Rams at the plate with 48 hits, 38 RBI and 26 runs scored on a .353/.400/.618 slash line. Jonny Gilbride (33 H, 20 RBI, 30 R), Garret Roberts (35 H, 17 RBI, 22 R) and Luke Harder (32 H, 17 RBI, 21 R) have been consistent contributors at the dish as well.  

The blue-and-gold may call upon George Breslin (4.88 ERA, 59.0 IP, 34 K), Roberts (5.17 ERA, 40.0 IP, 30 K) or Harder (3.86 ERA, 21.0 IP, 14 K) to start on the bump.  

GET TO KNOW THE GULLS
Endicott grabbed the top seed in the CCC tournament with a 35-5 overall record and a nearly undefeated CCC ledger of 15-1. As a team, the Gulls led the league both offensively and defensively with a league-best 3.01 ERA as a staff.  

Caleb Shpur has been a crucial cog to Endicott's success with 60 hits, including 22 extra-base knocks, with 48 RBI, 50 runs scored and 35 stolen bases to his credit. Nicholas Notarangelo (53 H, 37 RBI, 33 R), Kyle Grabowski (52 H, 39 R, 44 R) and Joseph Millar (51 H, 19 RBI and 34 R) have added 50-plus hits to Endicott's league-leading 373-run offense.  

The Gulls' staff is well-rested. Gabe Van Emon has proven himself as the top arm in the conference with a 0.93 ERA over 58.0 innings in 10 appearances, all starts, with 73 strikeouts. Rian Schwede (3.45 Era, 60.0 IP, 48 K) is a usual starter for Endicott as well as John Connolly (3.68 ERA, 29.1 IP, 13 K) and Nicholas Canata (3.97 ERA, 34.0 IP, 46 K). 

WE MEET AGAIN
Endicott defeated Suffolk in both regular-season meetings, however, they were both edge-of-your-seat finishes. The Rams fell in extra-innings in Beverly, Massachusetts, 4-3 April 4, before coming up short to the Gulls, 10-8, in Eastie April 25.
