Baseball Earns Sixth Seed in CCC Tournament

CCC RELEASE

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Suffolk baseball secured the sixth seed in the 2023 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament, which starts Monday, May 8.

The Rams enter the seven-team field as the sixth seed after putting together a 6-10 league ledger and 12-20 overall record.

Suffolk enters the field as the sixth seed for the second time and second time in as many seasons. The Rams earned their lone CCC postseason victory as the sixth seed. Overall, the blue-and-gold is 1-2 when playing in the CCC tournament as the sixth seed.

For the second-straight season, Suffolk will host seventh-seed Gordon (13-25, 5-11 CCC) in the play-in game on Monday, May 8 at East Boston Memorial Park at 3:00 p.m.

Suffolk and Gordon are prepared to tangle in the postseason for the second straight season. The foes split their regular-season match-ups. The Rams won the first, 16-6, via a mercy rule April 11, while the Fighting Scots defeated the blue-and-gold last week, 6-3.

The winner of the Suffolk, Gordon showdown will enter the double-elimination phase. The top three seeds – No. 5/8 Endicott, Salve Regina and Nichols will all host games on the first day of the second phase of the tournament Wednesday, May 10. The top-seeded Gulls will host the victor of the Suffolk, Gordon. The second-seeded Seahawks will entertain fifth seed Western New England with the third-seeded Bison slated to tangle with fourth seed Roger Williams.

The tournament will be played through Saturday with the final team standing in the double-elimination bracket set to be crowned the 2023 CCC Baseball Tournament Champion and earn the conference's automatic qualifier into the 2023 NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.

Suffolk makes is third trip and third in as many years to the CCC postseason. The Rams played their way into the double-elimination portion a year ago with their first CCC playoff victory a 9-3 play-in decision over Gordon in the 2022 tournament. The blue-and-gold looks to hoist a conference crown for the first time since 2018 when it grabbed its fourth straight, eighth overall GNAC title. Half of Suffolk's conference titles have come under Anthony Del Prete's tenure with four of the program's eight NCAA Tournament Trips also coming with Del Prete on the bench.
