Ninth Inning Homers Help Baseball Top Lasell, 11-6

WALTHAM, Mass. – Suffolk baseball barreled a pair of bombs in the ninth to take down Lasell, 11-6, Wednesday night at Stein Diamond.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 11 | Lasell 6
RECORDS: Suffolk (15-14) | Lasell (15-15)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Garret Roberts' led off the outing with a solo shot to center field to foreshadow an offensive heavy night for the Rams. After Roberts sent a ball out of the park, Luke Harder brought another Suffolk student-athlete in in the first inning with a single up the middle to give the visitors a two-run lead.

The blue-and-gold doubled the distance an inning later thanks to an RBI single from Jonny Gilbride and a sac fly by Harry Painter.

Lasell got on the board in the third to trim Suffolk's edge to three, 4-1. That margin stood through the sixth. The score, however, changed to 5-2 as the teams traded runs.

In the seventh, base hits paid off for the Rams. After a Lasers error, Cormier plated Harder and two batters later the first baseman came in on Ben Isaak's single up the middle.

The Lasers continued to chip away at the deficit as they scored two in the bottom of the seventh and one in the eighth to make it a one run game, 7-6.

Suffolk added insurance in home run fashion in the top of the ninth. First, Lake went yard and Roberts followed suit with his second dinger of the night. Roberts brought in Isaak, who singled through the left side, with him to bump the advantage to 10-6. Painter's second sac fly of the outing extended matters even further.

With a four-run lead, Steven Rossi took over for EJ Birch. The Rams reliever may have allowed a base runner on a walk, but he managed to hold his composure to secure the win for Suffolk.
