Salve Regina Upends Baseball in Game One, 9-2

EAST BOSTON – Suffolk baseball fell 9-2 to Salve Regina in the opener of a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) double feature to Salve Regina Saturday afternoon at East Boston Memorial Park.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | Salve Regina 9
RECORDS: Suffolk (14-12, 2-5 CCC) | Salve Regina (14-8-2, 7-0-2 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
With a pitcher's duel present through the first two stanzas. Salve Regina started to figure Rams' hurler Garret Roberts in the third. With two outs, the Seahawks combined free bases and base hits to break onto the board.

The visitors added to their advantage over the next two innings to force the Rams into a seven-run hole.

Suffolk began to chip away at the deficit in the home half of the fifth when Christian Seariac's single to centerfield scored Timothy McCarthy, who rocked a ground-rule double to center field.

The inch of ground the blue-and-gold made up was quickly erased as Salve Regina scored two more in the next half inning to push the distance to eight.

A spark came back for Suffolk in the seventh. Once again McCarthy factored into the conversation as the second baseman led off with a single down the right field line. Jonny Gilbride wore a pitch to put two ducks in the pond, which forced the Seahawks to go to their pen. Off the fresh wing, Eddie Hardiman, Christian Seariac bunted for a single down the third base line. Will McCarthy made a bare hand grab in an attempt to catch Seariac at first, however, he over threw, which allowed McCarthy to score instead to restore the seven-run margin.

Things stood at 9-2 the rest of the way as neither team capitalized on their chances the rest of the way.
