UMass Boston Bests Baseball in Game One, 14-2

BOSTON – Suffolk baseball fell behind early and never caught up as UMass Boston's bats burst past the Rams, 14-2, a seven-innings in the opener of a non-conference twinbill at Monan Park.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 2 | UMass Boston 14
RECORDS: Suffolk (12-1) | UMass Boston (15-4)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk fell behind early as the Beacons put up six runs in the first inning. The Rams looked to inch pack in the second as they Dylan January brought in a run on a sac fly. The freshman plated Marc Birbiglia, who led off with a double to left center.

The little ground that the blue-and-gold made up in the top of the inning was erased when the Beacons scored three times in the home half of the inning and twice more in the third to make things really lopsided, 11-1.

The Rams found their way on the scoreboard again in the fourth when Luke Harder's double to left center brought in Birbiglia. Birbiglia drew a walk to reach and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch.

Once again, the host retaliated with runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth as the Beacons scored three to turn it into a 14-2 game.

Neither side would score the rest of the way to keep things there.
