Lasell Walks Past Baseball in Nightcap, 8-3

EAST BOSTON – Half of Lasell's four runs came off bases loaded walks, which propelled the Lasers over Suffolk, 8-3, in game two of an out-of-league twinbill Sunday at East Boston Memorial Park.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 3 | Lasell 8
RECORDS: Suffolk (11-9) | Lasell (7-11)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk walked the first six Lasers to put itself in a 3-0 hole in the first fame. The Rams found their way on the board in the bottom of the first when Harry Painter's single to left field brought in Blase Cormier. Cormier drew a base on balls to lead off the blue-and-gold's offense and the first baseman advanced to third on Joe Ward's ground-rule double to left.

An inning later, Suffolk pulled within one when Cormier collected an RBI on a base hit that scored Jonny Gilbride. Gilbride found himself in scoring position on a costly error by Lasell's center fielder that not only allowed the short stop to reach, but to take second.

A response to the Rams' runs came from the Lasers in the fourth when Lasell used three hits, a sac bunt, and a pair of walks to push the gap back to three, 5-2.

Once again Suffolk rebuttaled in the home half of the inning. With the bases loaded and one out Ward sauntered to the plate. The center fielder had a knack for hitting balls into the outfield all day long and look to do so again. The left-handed hitter did send a long ball to right field, but Bryan Bauman was able to get a glove on it. Despite the play resulting in an out, Ward's sacrifice cut the distance back to two.

From there, Lasell used two different arms, Jack Snyder to end the fifth and Vaun Larisa in the sixth and seventh, respectively, to hold off a Rams comeback. The Lasers offense also padded the margin with a three-run seventh, for the 8-3 final.
