Gordon Gets Baseball in Game One, 5-3

WENHAM, Mass. – Homers by Gordon proved to be the difference as Suffolk baseball fell, 5-3, Saturday afternoon in game one of a non-league doubleheader at J. Tec White Field.

THE BASICS
SCORE: Suffolk 3 | Gordon5
RECORDS: Suffolk (10-9) | Gordon (7-14)

HOW IT HAPPENED
A one-out, solo shot by Connor Hartman in the home half of the opening inning put the Fighting Scots up 1-0.

That lead extended to four as Gordon got three runs in its second trip to the plate. Once again, the scoring came when a ball went over the fence. This time Shane Demers barreled a two-out bomb to bring in Hartman and Evan Paquette, who walked and singled, respectively.

Suffolk made up some ground in the top of the third. With the bases loaded and two outs, Luke Harder connected for a base hit to third base to score Christian Seariac, who walked, to trim the margin down to 4-1.

The hosts restored a four-run lead in the bottom of the fifth thanks to stealthy base running with four stolen bases in the frame, including the fifth run of the day.

The Rams got two runs back in the sixth. Tim Brigham led off with a double to right field and Harder traded places with him with a hit of his own good for two bags. An out later, Michael James Jr. switched spots with Harder as he joined the double frenzy too. James' RBI trimmed the gap down to two, 5-3.

Despite finding himself in a bases loaded jam, Ryan Garton got out of the bottom of the sixth unscathed to keep the two-run game intact.

Suffolk saw an opportunity to come back. With one out Seariac drew walk and another out later Cormier kept the inning going with a single up the middle. Brigham brought the go-ahead run to the plate, however, the left fielder grounded out to third and the Rams fell, 5-3.
