LAST TIME OUT

Suffolk baseball produced seven extra base hits and EJ Birch shoved a standout game to help the Rams secure an 11-2 game two victory over Lasell Sunday afternoon at East Boston Memorial Park. The victory wrapped up a double feature sweep of the Lasers for the Rams.

RAMS RUNDOWN
Suffolk started the year 3-1 after its four-game series with Lasell.

The Rams offense is averaging 8.25 runs per game as the team has produced 37 hits broken down into 14 doubles, two triples and five jacks to slug .598 as a squad.

Tim Brigham's bat has been the most productive. The graduate student enters the weekend with a team-high seven hits, five of which were good for two bags, with three RBI and runs scored, respectively, on a .467/.500/.933 slash line. Shane Lake has brought in a squad-best five RBI off four hits with a .571/.571/.714 slash line.  Marc Birbiglia rounds out the top three hitters with four hits, three RBI and five runs scored.

On the hill, Suffolk cycled through nine different arms in four games over opening weekend to combine for a 1.61 staff ERA with 33 punchouts scattered among the group. Steven Rossi (5.0 IP, 3.60 ERA, 4 Ks), Parker Browne (7.0 IP, 0.00 ERA, 8 Ks), Michael Muscarella (6.0 IP, 1.50 ERA, 10 Ks) and EJ Birch (6.0 IP, 3.00 ERA, 7 Ks) each got the nod.

FIGHTING SCOTS FACTS
Gordon lifted the lid on its 2021 campaign with a mid-week twinbill at Eastern Nazarene. The Fighting Scots fell in both outings and were outscored 19-6.

Just three different Gordon batters have multiple hits on the year. Evan Paquette leads the way with four with half good for two bags. Connor Hartman, meanwhile has two hits and a team-best two RBI. Patrick Tevenan rounds out the trio, all of who scored one run apiece, with two hits to his credit as well.

Pitching wise, Suffolk is likely to see a fresh arm to open the weekend, however, the duel with Eastern Nazarene looked to be a bull pen day for the Fighting Scots. Joe Pedulla and Charlie Pedue each started against the Lions, but only last two innings apiece. Overall, Gordon used 11 different hurlers in its season opener double feature.

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • The Fighting Scots took down the blue-and-gold 8-5 at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational March 15, 2017.
