RAPID REWIND
Suffolk got in 11 games last season prior to the shutdown of NCAA competition due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. In that stretch the Rams went 5-6 including a 5-5 Spring Break trip.

RAMS RETURNERS
The Rams welcome back a wealth of experience including three of its graduating players from a year ago who took advantage of the NCAA blanket waiver for spring sports in Zack Aresty (9H, 7 RBI, 7R), Tim Brigham (11 H, 9R, 4 RBI), and Rich Gilbride (11 H, 13 R, 3RBI).

Back in blue-and-gold as well is Blase Cormier, who was posting a monster season prior to things being shut down. He slashed .531/.643/.625 with a team-best 17 hits including three doubles to top the team in RBI (13) to go along with seven runs scored.

MOUND MENTIONABLES
Suffolk has depth on the rubber this season with 16 pitchers. Broken down there are 11 righties, a pair of southpaws and three positional pitchers.

Parker Browne (13.0 IP, 10 Ks), Steven Rossi (13.0 IP, 11 Ks, 2.77 ERA) and Michael Muscarella (13.o IP, 10 Ks) will be part of the Rams regular rotation.

RAMS ROOKIES
Suffolk will get a boost from six new players this year in five true freshmen and graduate transfer Christian Seariac, a utility player from MCLA. The rookies including a pair of RHP in Jack Maynard and Sean McCarthy, an outfielder Brandon Bukowski, first baseman Jackson Oliver and catcher Christopher White.

GEOGRPAHY 101
Suffolk's 34-player roster spreads seven states in the New England and Tri-State regions. The bulk of the Rams are Bay State locals with 18 Massachusetts natives, while the Empire State is represented by seven New Yorker. A quartet has come down from New Hampshire with a pair traveling up from New Jersey. Connecticut, Maine and Pennsylvania are all represented by one student-athlete each.

CLASS CATEGORIES
The 34 Rams hail from every Suffolk class including a pair of graduate students. Nearly half of the squad is from the Class of 2022 with 15 juniors with seven seniors wrapping up the upperclassmen contingent.  The underclassmen, meanwhile, have five freshmen and sophomores, respectively.

SUFFOLK'S SKIPPER
Anthony Del Prete is back on Suffolk's bench for his seventh season.

Del Prete's coaching staff features long-time assistant John O'Brien and former Rams Mac Jacobson and Mark Fusco.

OPENING ACT

  • Suffolk begins its campaign in New England for the second straight season and third time in the Anthony Del Prete era.
  • The Rams look to capture their first opening day win since taking down Albion, 7-3, to begin the 2018 season.
  • Under Del Prete's guidance, the Rams are 3-3 in the first outing of the season.
  • Since 2000, Suffolk is 12-9 in its first game of the year.

LASERS LOOK
Lasell jump started its 2021 in a midweek matchup with Fisher, which the Lasers lost, 14-7.

In the debut, Matt Motyka and Brian Cipolla's bats provided for Lasell. Both of Motyka's hits were good for two bags to bring in one run and the first baseman scored one himself. Cipolla, meanwhile, went 2-for-3 at the dish. Harrison Silva and Matt Bischof contributed one double each on opening day with the latter scoring twice for the Lasers.

Pitching wise it looked like a bull pen day for Lasell with five different arms taking the rubber. It's hard to predict who will make up the Lasers weekend rotation with nearly a year away from the diamond. Graduate students Chris O'Connor and Jack Snyder are likely with the possibility of a rookie getting the nod for the first time in their careers.

INSIDE THE SERIES

  • Suffolk has won 12 straight against Lasell to move to 28-1 in the all-time series.
  • The foes last met May 2, 2019 in the GNAC Quarterfinals. The Rams took that meeting 4-3.
  • Under Anthony Del Prete, the Rams are 13-1 versus the Lasers.
