Hall of Fame Series: Women’s Basketball’s AnnChristine Kruse, BSBA ’90

BOSTON – Over the next few weeks, GoSuffolkRams.com will take a look at the student-athletes, special honoree and team to be inducted into the Suffolk University Athletics Hall of Fame this October. The next installment features a double-double performer, women’s basketball’s AnnChristine Kruse, BSBA ’90.

Kruse’s time as a Ram was limited to just two seasons, but in that time, she made her name known as a double threat in offense and defense with career numbers of 15.1 points and 11.5 rebounds per game.

The forward’s career started as a junior in 1988-89. Over 16 games she totaled 260 points and 214 rebounds to average 16.3 points and 13.4 rebounds per game, leading Suffolk to seven victories.

One win in particular that year was monumental for Kruse, a 77-59 decision over MIT, Feb. 21, 1989. That game, she did not miss a beat. She was the go-to scorer for Suffolk and poured in 37 points, which at the time was third-most all-time by a single player in a game. Since, that mark has dropped down to a share of fourth in the Rams single-game record list.

A year later, as a senior, Kruse contributed 268 points and 188 caroms. That season, she shared team Most Valuable Player honors with captain Kelly Harney, a member of Suffolk’s 2017 Hall of Fame Class.

On top of her achievements on the hardwood, Kruse was a standout student. For her combined athletic and academic excellence, the School of Management student, who graduated Cum Laude in 1990 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, was recognized as the 1990 recipient of the Charles Law Student-Athlete Award that has been handed out yearly to the Suffolk student-athlete who excels in both athletics and academics.

“I am thrilled to be selected to be among the best of Suffolk University’s Hall of Fame,” Kruse said. “Our team wasn’t the winningest team, but it was in essence what a team is all about. We shared so many memorable moments, as well as the comradery of a team and most importantly that is what stays with you in the end.”

Kruse is the 10th women’s basketball player to be inducted into the Suffolk University Athletics Hall of Fame, including multi-sport athletes.

The 2022 Hall of Fame Class features three men, two women and one team representing four different athletic programs. On October 14, the Suffolk University Athletics Hall of Fame, which held its first induction ceremony in 2007, will increase in size to 71 members broken down by 53 student-athletes, four head coaches, 10 teams and four special honorees.
