JJ Archibald Named CCC Associate Commissioner/Senior Woman Administrator

BEVERLY, Mass. – Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Commissioner Patrick Colbert is pleased to announce the hiring of JJ Archibald as the conference's first-ever Associate Commissioner/Senior Woman Administrator.

In this role, Archibald will have oversight over Conference sport administration and championship operations, while serving as the liaison to the Conference's senior woman administrators and student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC).

Archibald will also be charged in crafting recommendations to the athletic directors as it relates to the strategic vision of the league and implement them accordingly, in conjunction with the Commissioner.

"When our membership agreed to collectively invest in increasing the size of our Conference office staff, it was critical that this position be strategically crafted for someone who is a strong communicator, leader, and advocate for student-athletes. JJ is that person and more, and I am thrilled to have her join our staff," said Colbert. "JJ is someone I have a great respect for, and her experience as a Division III athletic director coupled with serving in leadership roles at multiple institutions and league offices, will be a great attribute to our office and something our membership will certainly benefit from."

Archibald joins the CCC staff following a two-year stint as the Director of Athletics, Recreation and Physical Education at Salem Academy and College.

As the only athletics director in the country to supervise collegiate and high school athletics programs, simultaneously, Archibald was responsible for overseeing all aspects of six collegiate sports, five high school sports, and all staff members working within the college and high school, respectively. Her impact on the college athletics department side included hiring new coaches for the basketball, cross country, softball, soccer, and volleyball programs. Those new coaching hires were responsible for recruiting 94 new student-athletes, which accounted for 34 percent (274 total new incomers) of the College's incoming class since returning from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Archibald also implemented leadership programming specialized for athletes and captains, served as a professor within the College instructing a Women in Sport class, guided capital campaign initiatives, and was a member of the Presidential Cabinet.

"I would like to thank Patrick and the CCC for the opportunity to rejoin both conference work and New England. I am thrilled to be a part of revitalizing and strengthening an already strong conference through continued dedication to the student-athlete experience. College athletics is constantly shifting and it will be a joy to assist the CCC with that navigation," said Archibald.

Prior to her time at Salem Academy and College, Archibald served as the Assistant Director of Athletics/Senior Woman Administrator at the SUNY Oswego from 2018-2021. Archibald stewarded the progress of the men's cross country, women's cross country, field hockey, men's lacrosse, women's lacrosse, men's soccer, softball, and swimming & diving programs as their
sport supervisor.

Additionally, Archibald was a member of the university's Diversity and Inclusion Committee and the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) SWA Committee, managed all event operations for 24 NCAA Division III varsity programs, coordinated scheduling for all athletic facilities, and spearheaded all marketing, promotion, and sponsorship opportunities for the athletics department.

Her other experiences in collegiate athletics include working at Ithaca College (facility, event setup, & team travel specialist), interning with the Women Leaders in College Sports organization (membership services), and experiential learning opportunities within the NCAA (new athletics director seminar;emerging leaders symposium; institute for administrative advancement).

Archibald earned her Bachelor of Arts in environmental studies from Mount Holyoke and her Master of Education in physical education with a concentration in athletic administration from Springfield.
