Suffolk Athletics Presents Intro to Empowerment October 6

Suffolk Athletics Presents Intro to Empowerment October 6

BOSTON – Suffolk University students are encouraged to gather for an Intro to Empowerment seminar Thursday, Oct. 6 at 12:15 p.m. at the Larry E. Smith and Michael S. Smith Court at the Ridgeway Building. The seminar will be led by Mya Kermelewicz, Relationship Coach and founder of MK Prevention Services.

Kermelewicz aims to change lives of many through educating on and preventing sexual assault in communities. Through experiencing unhealthy relationships and dating violence beginning a young age, Kermelewicz has learned the importance of education for prevention. She firmly believes that we cannot ignore difficult conversations, but instead, we need to embrace them and encourage students to have a voice. Her goal in life is to lower dating violence and sexual assault statistics, creating campuses where students stand empowered, knowledgeable and safe. She wants to empower others to empower themselves, and everyone else around them.

To help empower Ram Nation and to make difficult conversations easier, Kermelewicz will cover a number of conversations at the seminar October 6 including:

  • Healthy vs. Unhealthy Relationships
  • Sexual Assault
  • Bystander Prevention
  • Consent
  • Reporting Sexual Assault & Rape Kits
  • Steps to Take Mentally/Physically Post Assault

The stop at Suffolk is a part of a college tour for Kermelewicz that includes stops at Merrimack and fellow Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) member Endicott.
