BOSTON – For the first time in the history of the award, there was no voting needed to decide the standout performers from Suffolk Athletics over a seven-day stretch as the men's and women's indoor track & field team hands down stood out from the rest as each squad captured their respective gender's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships Sunday, Feb. 13.
The men won 11 of the 16 total events with nine individual titles and both relay team first-place finishes to finish with a team total of 234 points, 142 more than runner-up Colby Sawyer. The Rams, who repeated as GNAC Champions and are the only team to hoist the men's indoor conference cup, rewrote six league meet records and registered 31 personal-bests.
The women, meanwhile, upstaged their runner-up finish from two years ago, defeated reigning conference champ Emmanuel and grabbed the program's first championship with 162 points. The team total came after 13 student-athletes and both relay teams earned a place on the podium with five individual champions and six runner-ups. The blue-and-gold saw 28 personal records broken in the title performance and one GNAC meet record rewritten.
