Johnson Named GNAC Rookie of the Week, Again

BOSTON – For the second time this season, Harmony Johnson of the Suffolk volleyball team was recognized by the league with GNAC Rookie of the Week accolade after producing 6.64 assists, 2.91 digs and 0.64 blocks per set in a 2-1 week for the Rams.

Johnson was a crucial ingredient to Suffolk's pair of victories, including a straight set win over conference foe Norwich that helped the blue-and-gold begin league play 3-0 for the first time since 2005.

The Riverside, California native opened the week with a 19-handout, nine-dig, one-ace, one-block and one-kill effort at Wentworth.

At Suffolk's Lace Up for Pediatric Cancer event the freshman found her grove. Against the Cadets, she contributed a double-double of 27 assists and 13 digs to go along with a career-high four blocks, one ace and one kill in the sweep.

Johnson wrapped up the action with her second straight double-double of 27 handouts and 10 digs versus Western New England. She added two blocks, one ace and one kill to her stat line in the five-set thrilling triumph, which was the Rams' first victory over the Golden Bears since 2005.

Suffolk is off to its best start through 16 matches in 22 years at 11-5 overall and Johnson has been a main source to the success. The Ram's rookie handles the setting responsibilities, dishing out 7.78 aps to a 10.16 kps offense. Defensively she adds 2.24 dps and 0.29 bps.

The weekly accolade is the second for Johnson this season as she became the first-ever student-athlete to take home a conference weekly nod in the Scott Blanchard era with her first collegiate honor Sept. 9.

Johnson and the Rams step out of GNAC action this Tuesday, Oct. 1 when they entertain Becker at Smith Court in a 7 p.m. battle.
