Rivier Sweeps GNAC Tri-Match

The Rivier University Raiders swept a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match hosted by Suffolk University on Saturday afternoon. Rivier topped host Suffolk, 3-0 to open the day before wrapping up with a 3-1 victory over Lasell College. Lasell split the day as they topped Suffolk 3-1 in the finale.

Sophomore Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) led all players on the day as she recorded 25 kills combined in the doubleheader for the Raiders who improve to a 15-5 mark on the year and opened their GNAC slate on Saturday.

For the Lasers, freshman Meredith Eagan (North Andover, Mass.) led the offense as she posted a combined 14 kills in the two games, including a game-high 11 in Lasell's 3-1 victory over Suffolk.

Freshman Krista Iacobucci (Rocky Hill, Conn.) also posted 14 kills in the two games combined for Suffolk, who fall to a 6-12 mark on the year and 2-2 record in GNAC play.

Game One: Rivier 3 Suffolk 0

Rivier opened the day taking three straight sets by scores of 25-8, 25-15 and 25-10 over Suffolk in their first conference match of the season.

Mott recorded nine kills in the opener while sophomore Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) chipped in with eight.

Freshman Jane Buckley (Plaistow, N.H.) finished with a team-high five kills for Suffolk in the opener.

Game Two: Rivier 3 Lasell 1

Rivier completed their sweep on the day as they topped Lasell College 3-1 in the sandwich game. Rivier took game one 25-14 before dropping game two 25-22. The Raiders would answer however taking the next two sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-12 to complete the victory.

Mott finished game two with a monster game as she posted 16 kills in the contest, the highest total any player would record on the day. Mott would collect 12 of her 16 kills in the final two sets for the Raiders to help seal off the sweep. Sophomore Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) also chipped in with nine kills for the Raiders.

Game Three: Lasell 3 Suffolk 1

Lasell would earn a split on the day as they topped Suffolk by a 3-1 score in the final game of the tripleheader. Lasell would take the first two games by scores of 26-24 and 25-11 before Suffolk earned a third set victory of 25-16. Lasell would take set four by a 25-19 margin to earn their first conference win of the season and third overall.

Eagan would record 11 kills in the contest while junior Heather Longley (North Granby, Conn.) also chipped in with 10 in the win.

Freshman Haley Dennis (Coventry, R.I.) would finish with a team-high 18 digs on the defensive side, while sophomore Cassandra Stout (Plymouth, Mass.) collected five service aces for the Lasers.

Iacobucci finished game two with 10 kills and also recorded 21 digs.

Senior Glamarys Sierra (Carolina, Puerto Rico) had 18 settings assists, while junior Yabriela Perez (Boston, Mass.) collected six service aces.
