Volleyball Opens 2014 Season at Bears Invitational

The Suffolk University Women's Volleyball team suffered a trio of setbacks as part of the Bears Invitational hosted by the Coast Guard Academy over the weekend. Suffolk dropped all three matches by 3-0 scores over the Labor Day weekend.

Freshman Krista Iacobucci (Rocky Hill, Conn.) finished the weekend with a team-high 10 kills, while also posting 25 digs on the defensive side. Freshman Megan Correia (Falmouth, Mass.) posted 26 digs in the three games combined to lead the Rams.

Coast Guard 3 Suffolk 0

Suffolk lost consecutive sets by scores of 25-10, 25-3 and 25-12 in their 2014 season opener. Senior Glamarys Sierra (Carolina, Puerto Rico) was one of three players to record a pair of kills in the match, while she finished with a team-high six setting assists.

Colby-Sawyer 3 Suffolk 0

Freshman Jane Buckley (Plaistow, N.H.) finished Suffolk's second game with four kills to lead the Rams who dropped three straight sets to Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday morning.

Sierra finished with 10 assists while also adding nine digs in the game. Iacobucci recorded 11 digs in the three sets while also adding three kills.

Montclair St. 3 Suffolk 0

Iacobucci finished with a weekend high five kills in Suffolk's third match of the weekend, a 3-0 setback to Montclair St. on Saturday afternoon. Iacobucci also added 10 digs in the three game set.

After dropping their first set, 25-12, the Rams held a brief three point edge at 13-10 before Montclair St. rallied scoring five of the last seven points for a 25-21 victory. Montclair took the third set 25-13.

Suffolk will now be back in action on Friday afternoon as they travel to Newbury College for the David J. Hildebrandt Memorial Invitational. Suffolk comes in as the defending tournament champions. They'll open on Friday afternoon against host Newbury at 4:00pm.
