Rodrigues Recognized as GNAC Rookie of the Week

BOSTON – Allison Rodrigues of the Suffolk women's outdoor track & field team picked up GNAC Rookie of the Week status after her standout out performances in multiple fielding events over the weekend, the league office announced Monday afternoon.

Rodrigues became the first-ever member of the Suffolk women's track & field program to be acknowledged as the conference's best rookie over a seven-day stretch in the program's two-year history.

To open the weekend, the rookie had the stand-out day of her Suffolk teammates, competing in three events at the Regis Spring Classic. She anchored the 19-competitor javelin field with a first-place showing of 34.81 meters. Her discus toss of 29.45 meters put the North Andover, Massachusetts, local in fifth in the 23-man field and she claimed sixth in the shot put behind a throw of 10.39 meters. Her performance helped the Rams to their first-ever outdoor track & field team decision, a share for fifth place.

A day later, Rodrigues competed in both the javelin and discus. In the javelin, her throw of 32.73 meters was good for third place in the field of 29 finishers, while her 26.88 meter discuss toss secured 16th out of 40 competitors.

Rodrigues, who is also a member of Suffolk's women's soccer team, is the second-ever member of Suffolk women's track & field to earn conference weekly recognition in program history behind Emma Weisse, who became the first-ever conference performer of the week April 23, 2018.

The Rams and Rodrigues return to action this weekend with multiple events on tap. First up is Brown's Ocean State Invitational Friday, April 12 with the Penman Relays following the next day, Saturday, April 13 at SNHU.
