CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Emily Manfra and Emma Weisse of the Suffolk track & field team had a standout showing at MIT's Sean Collier Invitational Saturday afternoon at Sherie and Don Morrison Track.
Weisse truly shined as the sophomore from Hamden, Massachusetts, took the top spot in the 5000 M race. She easily claimed first in the field of 12 as her time of 18:25.58 was 11.01 seconds better then second-place finisher Sarah Mawdsley of Roger Williams.
Manfra, meanwhile, also put together a top three performance. The Stoneham, Massachusetts, product finished third out of 36 runners in the 1500 M. The sophomore crossed the finish line in 4:51.57 just 4.07 behind the winner, Julia Bryson of Brandeis and just 0.37 shy of the runner up from Emmanuel, Pearl Vercruysse.
The invitational prepped Manfra and Weisse for Suffolk's first-ever championship challenge as the Rams are set to take part in the GNAC Championships Sunday, April 29 hosted by Regis.
