Manfra Makes NCAA DIII Track & Field Championships in Mile

NCAA RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS – For the second time in as many seasons, Emily Manfra of the Suffolk women's indoor track & field team heard her name called in the national championship field as the senior captain made the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships in the mile.

For each individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. Manfra heads into the field with the fourth-best mile time in the nation this season at 4:57.46, which she logged Jan. 24, 2020 at Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic.

The senior captain from Stoneham, Massachusetts is set to run in the preliminary Friday, March 13 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with the finals taking place the next day with the top eight finisher's taking home All-America status.

A year ago, Manfra made history at the event with a fifth-place finish to become the first-ever Suffolk track & field All-American. After posting a 5:01.69 mile in the prelims, she surpassed that effort with a personal-best time of 4:54.13.

This season Manfra has continued to impress. At the inaugural GNAC Championships she captured individual titles and all-league honors in the 800 and the mile, respectively, and went on to be the regional runner-up at New Englands by clocking a 4:57.46 en route to a pair of All-New England nods, one from the New England Coaches Association and the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
