Women’s Indoor Track & Field Participates in Branwen Smith-King Invitational, Pair Qualifies for New Englands

MEDFORD, Mass. – Suffolk women's indoor track & field saw two student-athletes qualify for New Englands at Tufts' Branwen Smith-King Invitational Saturday at Gantcher Field House. 

Senior co-captains Emily Manfra and Emma Weisse were the standouts for the Rams as the pair punched their tickets to regionals in their second events this season.  

Manfra made it in the 800 behind a GNAC-best time in the event this season with the Stoneham, Massachusetts, native circling the track twice in 2:22.30, good for third in the field of 39.   

Weisse, meanwhile, secured her spot in the 3000 with a 10:25.15 time, good for seventh out of 33 runners Saturday. Weisse's time is second in the league this year, behind her classmate's Manfra, while Savannah Goddeeris compiled an 11:09.21 mark in the same event Saturday, which sits third in the conference standings. On Saturday, the Rams' rookie finished 19th. 

Marin Stamer (11:41.66) and Natalie Fay (12:30.39) ran the 3K as well, finishing in the middle of the pack in 24th and 28th, respectively.

Mai Linh Vankirk and Skyler Spanbauer rounded out the Rams distance runners. Vankirk show her talents in the mile, which she finished in 6:09.80, and Spanbauer ran the 5000 in 20:47.86.  

Suffolk's sprinters saw Mariama Kamara and Dakhensey Marcellus in the 60-meter dash. The former finished 12th with a time of 8.21 and the latter took 41st out of 59 with an 8.75 time. 
Marcellus also raced the 200. The junior finished the half lap in 30.06 to claim 40th.  

Sarah Lawton's 400 time of 1:04.93 was good for 21st. 

Cassandra Kuechler (10.87) and Julia Hunt (11.04) ran the 60-meter hurdles to complete the Rams' runners in Medford. 

Hunt also tried her hands in the long jump, where she cleared 4.00 meters.  

Allison Rodrigues competed in both the shot put and the weight throw. Rodrigues put together a season-best and conference-best shot put showing, with an 11.29 meter toss, good for sixth out of 40. In the weight throw, the sophomore finished 21st with a 10.89-meter throw.  

Suffolk will be back in action next weekend when it travels to Plymouth, New Hampshire for the Panther Invitational.
