Women’s Hockey Set for Autism Awareness Game Saturday

BOSTON – The Suffolk women's hockey team's Saturday, Feb. 2 showdown with No. 8/5 Norwich will serve as the Rams' Autism Awareness game to bring awareness to those affected by the Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and show support to the valuable work many organizations do for all with ASD.

The Rams and Cadets are set to meet at Louis E. Porrazzo Memorial Skating Rink in East Boston with a ceremonial puck drop preceding the 7:30 p.m. match-up.

Suffolk will wear puzzle-piece designed jerseys to commemorate the occasion.

ASD is a development disability that can cause significant social, communication, and behavioral changes. There is often nothing about how people with ADS look that sets them apart from others, but people with ADS may communicate, interact, behave, and learn in ways that are different from most other people. The learning, thinking and problem-solving abilities of people with ASD can range from gifted to severely challenged. Some people with ASD need a lot of help in their daily lives; others need less.

There is currently no cure for ASD, but research shows that early intervention treatment services can improve a child's development.

In addition to the awareness outing, the Rams will continue their efforts inside local classrooms working with children with ASD throughout the remainder of the season.

Suffolk, in its first varsity season, sits in the driver's seat for home-ice advantage in the upcoming NEHC 2019 post-season tournament. The Rams enter one of the final weekends of the regular season in second place in the conference standings with a 9-2-1 league ledger.
