Bourikas Represents Women’s Basketball at NEWBA Senior All-Star Classic

BOSTON – Over the weekend, Georgia Bourikas of the Suffolk women's basketball team represented the Rams at the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Senior-All Start Classic held at Smith's Ainsworth Gymnasium.

Bourikas, a member of the 'home' team, put on her Suffolk white uniform for one final time. The senior standout chipped in 11 points to her team's 66 total, but it would not be enough as the 'away' team took the matchup, 91-66.

Bourikas is the first Suffolk student-athlete to participate in the classic, which capped off a standout career at Suffolk for the Hull, Massachusetts product. The appearance in the all-star classic was not the only first on Bourikas resume as she garnered the first-ever USBWA Player of the Week nod by a Suffolk women's basketball player. She picked up the feat after following up her career-high 30-point performance in a 69-61 win at Fitchburg State Dec. 7 with a 28-point day in a 90-87 thrilling overtime win at Framingham State two days later.

The weekly accolade put the Hull, Massachusetts, in the Rams' record books, but the small forward sprinkled her name throughout the annual annals in multiple categories including the biggest threat on the charity stripe to ever wear blue-and-gold; In her 272 trips the line, she connected on 82.4 percent of them (229). As a senior in 2017-18, she was the second-most potent free throw shooter across NCAA DIII, making 99 of her 107 freebies attempted to shot at a 92.5 connection rate. Bourikas also ranks in the top five in three-point field goals made (145), and three-point field goals percentage (38.0; 146-384), while also appearing on the all-time assists, field goals made, free throws made and points lists.
