DiCecco Takes Home Eighth GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week

BOSTON – Suffolk women's basketball's Jenni-Rose DiCecco's shelf of weekly awards has gotten rather full in her freshman campaign as she picked up her eighth GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week honor this afternoon the league office announced.

DiCecco became the most decorated rookie in the league as she took home her eighth rookie of the week nod, which marks the most in the conference's year-by-year record book, which dates back through the 2008-09 season. Along with her conference accolades, she was also tabbed the best rookie over a seven day stretch by the New England Women's Basketball Coaches Association (NEWBA) Dec. 4.

As a team, Suffolk has collected 14 weekly honors this season with DiCecco's eight headlining the group, while senior Georgia Bourikas was tabbed the USBWA National Player of the Week, along with the conference's and NEWBA Player of the Week status Dec. 12, while freshman Jordan Hipwell garnered the league's rookie of the week twice.

The last week leading to playoffs saw the Falmouth, Massachusetts, native lead Suffolk to a 2-0 week to cap off the regular season tying the program's record of conference victories (12-4) and winning the most games (19-6) since the 2012-13 season (23-4). Over the two games, DiCecco averaged 10.5 ppg, 7.0 rpg and 3.5 apg.

In a 52-37 win at Rivier, the floor general notched seven points, nine rebounds and five assists. She followed that with a 14-point, five-rebound effort in a 80-60 victory over Saint Joseph (Conn.).

DiCecco and the Rams begin their quest for GNAC glory as Suffolk hosts Johnson & Wales in the conference quarterfinals Tuesday, Feb. 20. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. inside Regan Gymnasium.
