Women’s Basketball Sweeps Weekly GNAC Awards

BOSTON – Suffolk women's basketball swept the GNAC weekly honors as Georgia Bourikas and Jenni-Rose DiCecco were named the GNAC Corvias Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league office announced Monday afternoon. The accolades come on the heels of a 2-0 week for the Rams that stretched the blue-and-gold's wins streak at five straight.

Bourikas grabbed the top weekly honor after producing 29.0 ppg on a 58.3 (21-36) rate from the floor, 44.4 percentage from the three-point line and did not miss from the charity stripe (8-8). The senior guard used halftime to compose herself as 48 of her 58 points on the week came in the second half. She also contributed on the glass with 16 boards over the two games.

To open action, Bourikas was the main ingredient to Suffolk's comeback 69-61 win at Fitchburg State. The co-captain from Hull, Massachusetts, ignited the Rams' charge with back-to-back three's following the intermission to put the blue-and-gold up 33-31. After a back-and-forth affair, Bourikas turned the tides in Suffolk's favor once again as she knocked down her fifth triple of the night to give the blue-and-gold a 53-51 advantage it turned into a 69-61 victory. On the night, Bourikas dropped 30 points, becoming the first Ram to score 30 or more points since Chelsea Campellone was two shy of the program record with a 43-point outing in a 85-63 win versus Lasell Jan. 23, 2016. The 30 points are career-best for the senior.

In the overtime thriller, Bourikas took matters into her own hands in the third, scoring 17 of Suffolk's 26 third quarter points to keep the visitors in front. As things got close and the Rams needed a bucket, Bourikas answered with the go-ahead three with seconds remaining. In the extra session, she connected on a pair from the line to secure the 90-87 win for Suffolk. Bourikas finished the day with 28 points, eight boards and five assists.

DiCecco, meanwhile, followed up her 14-point, 10-rebound, double-double effort versus the Falcons with a career-day at Framingham. In the thrilling overtime win, the freshmen floor general registered a career-high 29 points off a career-best seven threes to pace Suffolk. Overall, DiCecco averaged 21.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 3.0 apg and 2.5 spg.

Bourikas earned the recognition for the first time in her career while DiCecco grabs the nod for the third time this season.

The dynamic duo are back in action tomorrow as the Rams wrap up first semester action in front of their home crowd with a Boston Commons battle versus Emerson. Game time is at 5 p.m. and serves as game one of a Suffolk basketball doubleheader with the men's team taking on UMass Boston on the Larry E. Smith & Michael S. Smith Court at 7 p.m.
