DiCecco Picks Up NEWBA Rookie of the Week Honor

BOSTON – Fresh off her second GNAC Corvias Rookie of the Week nod, Suffolk women's basketball's Jenni-Rose DiCecco added more weekly recognition to her resume with the floor general being named New England Women's Basketball Association's Rookie of the Week, the organization announced Monday afternoon. 

The accolade comes on the heels of a 3-0 week by the Rams with DiCecco leading the way with 14.7 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 4.7 apg and 3.0 spg. For the week DiCecco shot 43.8 percent from the field and had a 35.3 connection rate from three-point land. 

DiCecco's best performance came in the week's opener, a come-from-behind 72-57 win at Curry. The freshman notched her first collegiate double-double for 28 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five steals and five assists to lead the Rams change. 

From there, she helped in the Rams' league opening win, a 57-36 decision at Lasell. The victory marked the first time Suffolk began conference competition with a W since the 2013-14 season. 

DiCecco and the Rams wrapped up the week with an 84-61 convincing triumph over Mount Ida to improve to 2-0 versus league foes, marking the first time Suffolk began conference play with two straight wins since 2013-14. In the victory, the Falmouth, Massachusetts, native contributed 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. 

The weekly accolade marks the third for DiCecco this season as she picked up a pair of GNAC Rookie of the Week accolades Nov. 20 and Dec. 4, respectively. 

Suffolk and DiCecco set their sights on Fitchburg State as the Rams make the trip to the Falcons Thursday, Dec. 7 for a 7 p.m. tilt.
