Women's Basketball Shoot Past Monks 68-51

The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team topped the St. Joseph's College Monks, 68-51 on Tuesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

Junior Alessandra Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.) led all scorers with 15 points as Suffolk improves to a 7-2 mark in GNAC play with the 2014-15 regular season winding down this upcoming weekend.

The Monks came out of the gates quick as sophomore Emily Kehoe (Perkinsville, Vt.) knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the opening thirty-seconds to start the game.

A three-pointer by Quadri would break a 23-23 tie with 4:24 remaining in the first half as Suffolk closed out the opening period with a 13-2 run to take a 36-25 lead into halftime with them.

Sophomore Kelsey Schiebel (Windham, N.H.) had a monster first half to pace Suffolk offensively as she was 4-for-6 from beyond the arc putting together a 14-point first half effort.

Junior Morgan Cahill (Yarmouth, Me.) finished with a team-high 12 points in the setback for the Monks. Senior Sarah Assante (Standish, Me.) finished the evening leading all players with nine rebounds, while also chipping in with nine points.

St. Joseph's held an edge on the glass in the contest at a slight 45-40 margin.

Suffolk finished the night shooting at a 42.4-percent clip as a team from the field, including a 15-for-30 performance in the first half to set the pace offensively.

The loss drops the Monks to a 16-8 overall record on the season and 6-4 mark in conference play. They will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Johnson & Wales University in their regular season finale.

Suffolk improves to 11-12 overall on the year. They will be back in action on Thursday evening as they travel to Rivier University before wrapping up the regular season at home on Saturday when they welcome Mount Ida College at 1:00pm.
