Rams Cruise over Lancers 56-47

The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team topped the Worcester State Lancers in a 56-47 victory in nonconference action on Thursday in the Regan Gymnasium.

The first half started with even play for both teams. Senior Jennifer Ruys (Wallingford, Conn.) was the first to get the Rams on the board for the night where she had a game high 25 points and was perfect from the free throw line going 7 for 7. With just under three minutes left in the half sophomore Chelsea Camellone (Fall River, Mass.) made a layup to put the Rams up 30-20 which was their biggest lead on the night. Suffolk would not relenquish the lead and take the Lancers to a 30-24 edge into halftime.

The Lancers came out strong in the second half looking to diminish the Rams' lead. Junior Kelli McPherson (Mansfield, Mass.) would sink a three-pointer to start Worcester on a10-point run and lead the Rams for the only time on the night 34-30. Freshman Kelsey Schiebel (Windham, N.H.) and junior Tori Brillaud (North Andover, Mass) would get the Rams back on the board by each sinking both of their free throws to tie the game 34-34. Ruys would then put the Rams in the lead by making her two free throw shots. Suffolk would continue to press on to end the game in a 56-47 victory.

The Rams would out rebound the Lancers 45-31. Brillaud had a game high 12 rebounds.

The Lancers had three players score in the double digits on the night. Sophomore Cheyenne Jennings (Worcester, Mass.) would lead Worcester with 14 points. Meaghan Burns (West Brookfield, Mass.) would tally 12 points and McPherson would pitch in with 11 on the night.

The Rams improve to 10-6 overall where the Lancers drop to 7-12 on the season.

Suffolk will host Emmaneul on Saturday afternoon at 1pm in GNAC action. The Lancers will travel to MCLA on Tuesday in conference action at 5:30pm.
