Rams Cannot Overcome Halftime Deficit Against the Raiders

The Suffolk University Women's Basketball team fell 67-54 to the Rivier Raiders in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon at home.

Three players scored in the double digits for the Rams. Junior Iliana Quadri (Sudbury, Mass.) scored a team high of 15 points on the afternoon. While junior Shelby Santini (Winchester, Mass.) netted 12 points and senior Jennifer Ruys chipped in with 10 points and a game high nine rebounds for Suffolk.

The first half was back and forth with the Rams taking the lead midway through the half when Quadri made a jump shot. Suffolk would hold on to the lead with just over one minute left in the half. When Raiders' senior Ryan Baker (Whitinsville, Mass.) would force a turnover and senior Jaclyn Penniman (Dudely, Mass.) would cash in and put Rivier up 29-28. The Raiders would hold on to the lead into halftime 31-28.

Despite their strong start in the second half the Rams were unable to come back from their half time deficit.Suffolk outrebounded the Raiders 47-33.

The Raiders scored 25 points off their forced turnovers. Junior Deanna Purcell (Hudson, N.H.) would have a game high of 23 points on the afternoon.

The loss drops the Rams to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the GNAC. The Raiders improve to 11-3 overall and 2-0 in the GNAC.

Both teams will be back in GNAC action on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday this upcoming Monday. Rivier will travel to Albertus Magnus College for a 1:00pm tip-off with the Falcons. Suffolk travels to the University of Saint Joseph for a 1:00 match up with the Blue Jays.
