Quartet Named 2020 Softball Captains

BOSTON – Suffolk softball head coach Jaclyn Davis has handed the captains reins over to four upperclassmen in seniors Samantha Jacques and Ashley Zulla and juniors Grace Boehler and Kelly Keane

"I could not be prouder of this group of captains," Davis said. "They have been the driving force behind the reinvention of our team culture and the effort in moving the program forward. I am excited to see it translate onto the field."

Zulla begins her second tenure as a captain, while Boehler, Jacques and Keane earned the title for the first time in their careers.

Zulla, a Columbus, New Jersey native, has been a staple in Suffolk's line-up since joining the fold as a freshman. The three-time all-conference selection started in the outfield in her first two campaigns, before moving to the Rams' full-time backstop a year ago. In her final collegiate campaign, she looks to build on last season's slash line of .314/.339/.446 and seal her spot as one of the best all time. Through three seasons, she has registered 139 hits including 52 extra-base knocks, 35 of which were doubles.

Boehler, who is her third her athletically will graduate a year early, walking across the stage this May with her a pre-law degree. On the diamond, the East Freetown, Massachusetts, product has been a fixture in the outfield. In two seasons she has produced a .362 career batting average, bringing in 34 runs off 68 hits. As a sophomore a year ago, she had standout numbers with 41 hits, 20 RBI, six swiped bags and 25 runs scored behind a .360 average.

Keane, who hails from Hamilton, New Jersey. has been a fixture at first for the past two seasons. Her fielding presence and knowledge is crucial in the field for Suffolk's defense. At the plate she has supplied a .315/.368/.418 slash line with 58 career highs, 23 RBI and 28 runs scored. Last season, she recorded 37 hits, including seven doubles, for 23 RBI and 13 runs scored en route to all-league honors.

Jacques has contributed wherever needed both in the field and at the plate, and became an everyday starter a year ago. The Manchester, New Hampshire local looks to go out with a bang and build off her career numbers of .184/.236/.204. Off the field, Jacques represents the Rams at the GNAC office as the Marketing and Multimedia intern.

Suffolk's 2020 campaign begins in the Sunshine State when the Rams compete at the Spring Games. First pitch is scheduled for Saturday, March 7 against Montclair State at 9:15 a.m.
