UMass Boston Bests Men’s Tennis, 6-3

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Suffolk men's tennis team could not hold off a single surge by UMass Boston as the Beacons won five of the six singles courts to take down the Rams, 6-3, Thursday at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UMass Boston got on the board first before Suffolk used identical 8-6 victories on doubles courts two and three to take a 2-1 edge into singles action. On court two Omar Azzaoui and Chris Parnagian downed Josh Bhasin and Guang Huang, while Rami Esrawi and Charles Tang took down Onkgopotse Mokoka and Tin Tranin the third position. 

Ariel Ilarslan Russo grabbed his second victory as Suffolk's ace in as many outings and in as many tries to make it a 3-1 Rams contest. The freshman defeated Austin DeLasse, 6-1, 6-4. 

It was all Beacons black-and-blue from there as they won the final five singles matches to take the 6-3 non-conference contest. 

NOTEWORTHY

  • Ilarslan Russo moved to 2-0 on the top singles court.
  • The double teams of Azzaoui/Parnagian and Esrawi and Tang competed for the first time in 2018 and moved to 1-0.
