CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In its closest match of 2017, the Suffolk men's tennis team slipped to Bridgewater State, 5-4, at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Suffolk found itself in familiar terrority after doubles play, trailing the Bears, 2-1. Bridgewater State stretched its advantage to three points as it picked up the first singles win in the second spot. The Rams quickly charged back, however, earning points on court three thanks to Jacob Duggan and Suffolk's ace Omar Azzaoui, who evened the playing field at 3-all. 

Bridgewater sealed its winning fate with wins on the fourth and fifth courts, respectively, before Kevin Clavijo secured a win in the sixth slot for the final 5-4 tally. 

SUFFOLK'S STANDOUTS

  • In doubles play, Kevin Greenman partnered with Clavijo for the first time this season. The pair bested Alexander Belinsky and Zachary Mutti, 8-4, to put the Rams' on the scoreboard.
  • Azzaoui earned his second singles win of the season and first as Suffolk's top racquet. The freshman downed Matt McGree, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1.
  • Duggan picked up his first singles pint of the year with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Justin Haley on court three.
  • Clavijo's 7-6 (8-6), 5-10, 10-4 super tiebreaker triumph over Jacob Freeze marked the first singles point of the 2017 campaign for the senior.

Suffolk sets its sights to GNAC action as it entertains Johnson & Wales Saturday, April 8 at 4 p.m. at Buckingham, Browne & Nichols.
